(Major reference is made from Mathew 25:14-29)

The Bible in verse 14-19 says ‘For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them’.

To entrust means to assign someone with a certain responsibility while giving him some powers/gifts/abilities/privileges to execute that responsibility with the expectation of reaping something eventually.

Do you know why do you exist today?

Basing on the Bible, it is because you are called to serve God’s divine purpose on earth. The Bible in Romans 8:28 says ‘And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose’ (ESV). Also in the book of Proverbs 16:4 it is written ‘The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble’.

Do you see? We have been called according to his purpose and therefore this indicates that, God has got a purpose for each of us to serve. You are not the wicked but his chosen generation/servant, so you are made, created for a purpose. Now in order to save his purpose in your life, He has entrusted you with a number of gifts, abilities and powers (talents). The questions remains how do you use these talents to serve his purpose?

Do you know that you will be accountable for what has been given to you?

Reading form Matthew 24:45-47 the Bible says “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.

Connect the ideas of Matthew, above, with Luke 12:47-48 where it says ‘And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more’.

Let us ponder on these statements, do you (we) really know what we are supposed to do here on earth? Do we really know our masters will for our life? Do you know how much has been given or entrusted to you? Thus an understanding of God’s purpose for your existence and knowing what has been entrusted unto you is very vital toward serving God’s will in your life.

Implication of the study

My dear Brethren, since we have been called by God to serve his will/purpose on earth, be sure that, time to be accountable (settle accounts) is ahead us, therefore;

  • Search from God to know his purpose and to be sure of what has been given (entrusted) to you. You need to have a clear understanding of your Master’s will.
  • Be a wise and faithful servant to your call by acting according to your master’s will. That is begin and continue to be careful and faithful to you assignment (call) on earth.

  • Do you part and never compare your call to anyone else; this is because each of us has been entrusted according to God’s will of calling (different abilities). That is, we have been called differently, to some much has been given and some little has been given.
  • Don’t allow situations or rather challenges you are going through to hinder you from undertaking your assignment.  Once you allow them to take control, it means you have decided to fail your mission.

‘To God be the glory, Hallelujah’
